The state of Wisconsin, which is showing a lowered unemployment rate, has attracted the attention of the U.S. Senate. The Senate works in conjunction with state governments to facilitate national unemployment assistance.

Associated Press (AP) affiliates in Wisconsin said there were 16,400 more jobs in April than previous months. The recent additional jobs was the largest increase the state has seen in a 30-day period in over 14 years.

Secretary Gassman commented on the issue from the U.S. Senate at the end of May.

“We appreciate that unemployment insurance is a federal-state partnership, and it could not be more important than it is now as we work together to keep America strong,” stated Gassman in a press release.

According to AP, the statewide unemployment rate in Wisconsin was marked at 8.5 percent for April, which is lower than the national rate of 9.7 percent recorded in the month of May. One of the largest increases in employment came from manufacturing jobs that brought 3,300 people employment.
