Wisconsin: Shooting Reported at Children’s Hospital in Wauwatosa near Milwaukee

November 14, 2013 Updated: July 18, 2015

Shots were reportedly fired at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Wauwatosa, Wisc., near Milwaukee.

The reports of shots being fired came in at around 12:40 p.m. Newsradio 620 reported that the facility was placed on lockdown, but later said there is no “continuing threat,” reported NBC4.

The hospital said in a statement: “We have implemented our emergency protocols and will provide updates as they become available,” reported JSOnline

According to the paper, the suspect suffered a wrist wound. Police said they got reports that a wanted suspect was heading to the hospital but it was difficult to find him in the hospital due to downed communication lines.

Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. told the paper that they got reports of an active shooter, but when they arrived, police were on the scene looking for a wanted felon. They found the suspect, who is believed to be 22, holding a baby and when he saw police, he fled.

Police then said he had a gun and turned toward officers, who then fired.

CBS-58 reported that police were trying to serve the suspect with an arrest warrant.

Tim Williams with KDKA-TV reported that the suspect was a felon and was shot by police. He said the suspect put down the baby before police engaged him.

“This is not a situation where a guy came in to shoot somebody,” Clarke stressed.

The paper reported that the suspect is now in custody.

A doctor on the scene told JSOnline that the Medical College of Wisconsin located nearby was placed on lockdown.
