Country singer and song writer legend Willie Nelson was arrested last Friday in Texas after six ounces of marijuana was allegedly found in his tour bus. If he is convicted, Nelson could face up to two years in prison.

The drug bust occurred at 9 a.m. in Sierra Blanca, Texas, during a stop. Four people, including Nelson, were taken into custody and bail of $2,500 was posted only a few hours later.

Sherriff Arvin West told the El Pasto Times, “It’s kind of surprising, but I mean we treat him like anybody else. He could get 180 days in country jail, which if he does, I’m going to make him cook and clean. He can wear the stripy uniforms just like the other ones do.”

The 77-year-old Nelson is no stranger to being caught with drugs. In 2006, he was arrested with one-and-a-half pounds of marijuana and three ounces of hallucinogenic mushrooms, and in 1995 police noticed a joint in his car which triggered another arrest, according to The Daily Mail.

Coupled with his history of arrests, Nelson has been a long-time advocate for the legalization of marijuana.

In 2008, Nelson was reported as saying, “It’s a matter of time, a matter of education, a matter of people finding out what cannabis, marijuana is for, why it grows out of the ground and why it’s prescribed as one of the greatest stress medicines on the planet.”

The singer/songwriter/musician/actor/producer is better known for hits such as Redheaded Stranger, On the Road Again, and Always on my Mind. The troubador has received multiple Country Music Awards, including Grammys throughout an illustrious career.
