A photo of Will Smith, wife Jada Pinkett Smith, his daughter Willow, and son Jaden, went viral after Miley Cyrus performed onstage at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards show on Sunday. But the problem is, they weren’t reacting to Cyrus’s controversial performance, as reported by some media companies.
Cyrus gave a racy performance of her song “We Can’t Stop” on Sunday night, which drew widespread condemnation and strong reactions.
The photo of the Smith family, which shows all members’ shocked reactions, was actually when they were reacting to Lady Gaga’s performance “Applause,” not Cyrus’s performance. During Cyrus’s song, they didn’t react much.
And as the Huffington Post points out, Pinkett Smith was only scratching her nose. And Will Smith didn’t really react much at all.
But the gaffe didn’t prevent BuzzFeed, the Guardian Express, the Inquisitr, and Zap2it.com from saying otherwise.
