Will Forte will leave the cast of Saturday Night Live after lending his comedic skills to the comedy show for eight seasons, his representative said on Thursday.

“After eight great seasons, Will has made the decision to move on from SNL to pursue new opportunities,” his representative told MTV in a statement.

Forte, 40, is “eternally grateful” to SNL’s Executive Producer Lorne Michaels and “all of the incredible people” he got to work with.

Perhaps his most notable character was the Macguyver-spoof character known as Macgruber, which spawned a movie in May. He also played roles including the Falconer and other eccentric characters.

SNL will enter its 36th season with new episodes coming this fall.
