In a muddy well in Mudray, India, a young leopard found itself in a fight for its life after plummeting over fifteen feet into a well during the night, leaving itself trapped, helpless and at the mercy of local villagers for survival.

A group of local villagers and forest officials soon gathered overhead by morning, and their decision and act of rescue was caught on camera by a fellow local. Displaying bravery and courage, they fastened a rope and pulley system to first attempt to pulling the leopard up the side of the fifteen foot well. But to no avail, they quickly build a makeshift latter for it to climb out on.

But as fatigue and stress began to set in, the dire nature of the situation becomes clear. The leopard is tired and fearful, splashing around in the murky well water as it roars and shows its teeth in a defensive, yet aggressive display toward its potential rescuers.

Finally, after getting the leopards attention and positioning a makeshift ladder and cage overhead at the top of the well, the leopard crawls up and rests safely in the cage. Following the rescue, the locals bring the leopard to an RFO Depot for evaluation in Hebri, India, where it is ultimately treated for minor injuries to its nails from clawing at the well walls.

The harrowing video will keep any viewer on the edge of their seats and remind others of the value of human compassion for animals in distress. Watch the video in full to see the rescue efforts underway for yourself.
