Widener University Shooting Prompts Shelter-in-Place; Victim a Student, Shooter at Large

A shooting at Widener University in Pennsylvania on Monday night prompted a shelter-in-place order. The shooter is at large and the victim is a student.

The student was shot near the Schwartz Athletic Center, the university said in an alert.

It happened shortly before 9 p.m.

“His family has been notified and is with the student at this time,” the university said. “We are not releasing the name of the injured student at this time. Please stay indoors until further notice.”

Widener University is a private school located in Chester, Pennsylvania. It has about 6,400 students and is about 14 miles southwest of Philadelphia.

The school has three other campuses--one each in in Harrisburg, Exton and Wilmington, Delaware.
