Perhaps in response to comments here at The Epoch Times and elsewhere, declared Democratic Party presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has tweeted the following:
“Just to quell any speculation, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES will I join Donald Trump on an electoral ticket. Our positions on certain fundamental issues, our approaches to governance, and our philosophies of leadership could not be further apart.”
Pretty emphatic, no?
But what does it mean?
Frankly, I’m not sure, but I do know this: Kennedy would stand no chance of winning the Democratic nomination if he had said otherwise.
I write this knowing full well that some of Kennedy’s thoughts on medical freedom are much closer to those of declared Republican candidates former President Donald Trump and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and also of prospective candidate Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis than they are to those of President Joe Biden or any foreseeable Democratic nominee.
His thoughts are also closer to that trio on the fraught matter of what to do about our three-letter agencies such as the FBI and the CIA, which ranges among the GOP trio and Kennedy from reforming them drastically to dumping them altogether.
Biden sees those agencies as his guardians, as indeed they have shown themselves to be.
For his part, Kennedy has gone so far as to link the CIA with the assassination of his famous uncle, President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, quoting JFK’s desire to “splinter the CIA into a thousand pieces and scatter it into the winds.”
Kennedy may differ from the Republican trio in the area of the environment, but even on that subject, I have heard he’s moving away from leftist orthodoxy and understands how the Paris Accords benefit China most of all. We shall see.
Still, no one is hated more by rank-and-file Democrats than Trump, and Kennedy surely knows this.
If he evinced interest in running with him, it would be game over.
So how should we feel about this? At first, it left me a little depressed, since I was hoping for a beginning of the healing reconciliation that America sorely needs.
But then I reconsidered. We have a two-party system with both having their problems at the moment; the problems of the Democratic Party are far more extreme, having placed our constitutional republic in jeopardy.
The Republicans for the most part have a decent, conservative rank-and-file. It’s a number of their RINO leaders that are the problem.
Unfortunately, a significant part of the Democrat rank-and-file is seriously “woke” having suffered from psychologist Mattias Desmet’s mass formation psychosis, not to mention an educational system that resembles the Chinese Cultural Revolution but with “American characteristics.”
The old Democratic Party of Kennedy’s father and uncle wasn’t that way.
It may have had its problems—most political parties do—but it was far from the collective insanity we have in front of us today.
“Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country” is about as far from reparations and the rest of the giveaways being promulgated by Democrats as you can get.
Whether RFK Jr. can bring his party back to some semblance of sanity is unknown, but it’s certainly worth a shot.
That’s why we can relax, even applaud, over Kennedy’s denial of an interest in joining with Donald Trump and be happy that he’s running as a Democrat.
And as for Trump himself, I’m sure most will agree he’ll do just fine anyway. In fact, as far as I know, Trump never suggested wanting to run with Kennedy. It’s all been internet chatter.
Now, RFK Jr. has answered it.
