First Lady Michelle Obama says that her visit to China is over education and not politics. I’m sure she means well, but I have to wonder at the thinking of the administration that sent her. Do they realize that she is meeting with the modern equivalent of the Ku Klux Klan times 10,000?
The Chinese Communist Party suppresses all of the basic First Amendment freedoms that our country has stood for since its founding. The Communist regime suppresses— meaning intimidates, arrests, tortures, and kills—people for exercising basic freedoms of religion, press, and assembly. Does that mean anything to anyone anymore? I was hoping it would at least mean something to the wife of the leader of the free world.

The First Lady’s meeting with the Chairman of the Chinese Communist Party’s wife gives the American stamp of approval on the atrocities routinely committed. Further, this has everything to do with education. In terms of social sciences, the arts, and literature—basically half of a regular curriculum—the categorical suppression of ideas and different points of view essentially ruins education. Worse yet, if students in China only excel in math and science, then what? They will be technologically powerful but evil!
Obviously this is not something we want to learn from.
