Mojito and Whiskey Jack each won both races, respectively, in Division 1 and Division 2 in the second day of Big Boat Spring Cup on Saturday Feb 23. Rewarded for their perfect Race Day 2, both won the overall title in their respective division’s in the IRC and HKPN classes.

The 2-day regatta organised by Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club comprised five races, with two held last Saturday. If a boat completed all five races, one result discard was allowed to score the lowest net points total to determine the series winners.

Division 1

In IRC Class Division 1, a supreme Race Day 2 for Mojito capped off the Simon Blore skippered J111’s 3-1-3-1-1 (6 points net) placings in the five races to narrowly beat Race Day 1 leader Ambush’s 1-2-2-2-3 (7). Peninsular Signal 8 with 4-3-1-3-2 (9) was third.

Underlining the trio’s dominance at this regatta, all three boats finished on the podium in all five races except once.

Under the HKPN classification, the overall series’ placing was identical: Mojito 2-1-3-1-1 (for a net total of 5), Ambush 1-2-4-2-3 (8), Peninsular Signal 8 5-3-1-3-2 (9).

Division 2

In IRC Class Division 2, Whiskey Jack had an almost perfect regatta to beat Vixen by 3 net points after the two were tied for first place after Race Day 1.

Whiskey Jack, a J 109 skippered by Nick Southward, placed 1-1-3-1-1 (net 4) in the five races. After discarding one race result, Whiskey Jack scored the best possible tally. Vixen 2-2-1-2-4 (7) and Talking Head 3-3-2-4-3 (11) finished the series in second and third, respectively.

Under HKPN classification, Whiskey Jack won overall with 1-1-3-2-3 (7), with Vixen 2-2-1-3-4 (8) second and Darling 4-9-4-4-1 (13) third.

Top Dog Series

Next on the yachting calendar, the RHKYC’s Top Dog Trophy Series 2012-13 will come to a close this weekend with the running of the HKRNVR Memorial Vase on Saturday March 2.

Ambush is leading the 134-strong field after three of the four pursuit races in the regatta, with Peninsular Signal 8 and Red Kite II in second and third, respectively.
