Design trends in the world are constantly evolving and changing as the trends drift in and out of fashion. The same goes for website design trends. A the moment, one of the biggest trends that’s gaining in popularity is flat design which has been around previously but is gaining in traction again. It’s a straightforward design that doesn’t have any 3 dimensional angles, shadows or gradients. Basically flat website design uses zero effects that intend to create depth. It’s certainly a different look for your website and it could make it stand out from the rest of your competition. If you’re looking for a re design of your website, using a flat design would be a great place to start! We asked Wes @ Cude Design for some of the best examples of the different type of flat website designs from around the web and these are three examples we picked out of the 10 or so that we were sent.

Friends of the Web

This is a great little site that is well built and really looks impressive. The minimalistic feel to it suits the flat design and the interactive photo’s really works well with the theme of the website. The company makes small mobile applications and their website really does suit the business. As you can see, sometimes less is more. The simplistic nature of the webpage makes the typography an important part of the stylistic values of the website.

William Leeks

The website was built to provide customers with design and illustration opportunities for customers looking for a redesign of their website or if they want some graphic design completed for their business. The flat design on the website really shows off all that’s on offer and its clear and easy to see. Again, the colours are relatively neutral and the typography takes centre stage. The interactive image covers most of the homepage but because of its flat design, the lack of depth makes it less overwhelming and far easier to read. This is a great example of an independent website with an amazing flat design.

Werk Press

This website specializes in word press and how they can make it look as amazing as possible for your business or personal website. The flat design is simple but extremely effective at making the site look professional and easy to navigate round. The main aspect about this page is the picture, which forms a sizeable amount of the background. Due to the flat nature of the interactive buttons and the neutral colours though, it merely adds to the theme of the website, rather than define it. It’s impressive to look at and the colours suit the flat design down to a tee.
