Thousands of small to medium businesses in Western Australia will be eligible for state government grants of $17,500 to help them recover from the economic impacts of COVID-19.

About 7400 Western Australian businesses with annual Australian taxable wages for 2018-19 of more than $1 million and less than $4 million will benefit from the one-off payment.

The grant will be sent automatically to all qualifying businesses, while eligibility for employers not previously registered for payroll tax will be determined on their reconciled 2019-20 Australian taxable wages, with grants paid later in 2020.

Finance Minister Ben Wyatt says the one-off grants will help businesses bounce back from the impacts of COVID-19.

“We are very aware of the impact that the pandemic has had on local businesses and jobs, and we thank every business for playing their role in helping stop the spread of the virus in WA,” Wyatt said on July 16.

The payments are part of the more than $2.3 billion in COVID-19 support and relief measures from the state government.
