The exterior of your house can really enhance your entire home if it looks good; however, it takes a lot of time and effort to really make your garden look amazing. With a small budget and not many gardening skills, you could find yourself struggling with lots of good ideas but no real way to make these ideas a reality. If this sounds like your situation, don’t worry. There are plenty of ways to make your garden look great without having to spend lots of money or put lots of effort into it. Here are some of the easiest ways to make your garden look great on a budget.

  1. Add some colour

Luckily, there are loads of ways to add more colour to your garden. A garden which has colours other than shades of green will stand out in the neighbourhood and make your home look beautiful. When the warmer months come around, plant some flowers – you can buy flower seeds for very cheap prices from your local garden centre or supermarkets. They’re easy to plant and can be loads of fun too! If you have young children, planting some seeds is a great way to introduce them to gardening and teach them about nature too. However, adding colour in the winter can be difficult, but there are still ways in which it can be done. One popular way is to have flag stones in your garden which are different shades, or for an even cheaper option, buy different coloured plant pots. Be careful not to buy pots which are too bright or bold, since this can be too much.

  1. Get a new fence

Buying new fences for your garden can change it completely. Wooden fences which are starting to rot or metal fences which are losing the paint can make your whole garden look tacky. If you have experience when it comes to installing and erecting new fences, you can put them up yourself and save yourself a good deal of money. After all, most of the costs of sorting out a garden are normally taken up in labour costs. There are many different types of fences that you can purchase, so you can choose one that you think will really suit your garden. If you want to add colour to your garden but you do want to do so with plants and pots, you can get a fence which is a dark red or blue. This will look different from most fences, which are usually brown, and it'll add a lovely touch to your home.

  1. Look after your lawn

Make sure you look after your lawn throughout the year. It’s not just the summer time that calls for you to fertilise your lawn – you need to do it all the time if you want your garden to stay in great shape. However, 3-4 times a year will be sufficient, so try to do it once every season. During the summer, you might need to put other products on your lawn in order to stop the grass from drying out in the summer heat. You should also rake the lawn regularly in the spring and summer, since this will get rid of any moss and prevent more from growing. Looking after your lawn properly will ensure that weeds don’t grow, which are some of the worst things for your garden. Be careful not to get too much water on the lawn, or it can become soggy and slushy and ruin patches of the grass.

  1. Add some garden lights

Gardens lights can look beautiful in a garden, but you have to make sure that you get the right amount of lights. You need enough light so that it makes a difference to the garden and the lights don’t look isolated in one part of the garden, but too many can look over the top, especially in a small garden. You can buy LED lights which don’t need to be plugged into an outlet, and these are perfect since it means you can keep them on all the time if necessary and you don’t have to worry about anybody tripping over the wires, especially when it gets darker. You can choose from different coloured lights, but be aware that too many different colours can make the garden look tacky.
