Elijah Lee, a 4-year-old boy, was identified as the child who died in a flash flood in Waynesville, Missouri on Wednesday, and his mother Jessica Lee is missing and presumed dead.

Law enforcement officials didn’t list a hometown for the two but said that they have family in the area, according to KY3

Flash flooding has been happening across Missouri, Kansas, and Tennessee over the last several days, and flash flood warnings remain in effect in many areas. A flash flood warning in Nashville, for instance , was extended until 3 p.m. CDT

A flash flood watch remains in effect for the area northeast of Waynesville, including for Rolla and Lebanon.

The accident concerning the Lees happened when Jessica’s car was caught in a flash flood and swept away.

Jessica was able to get out of her vehicle and call 911 prior to being swept away by flood waters but she has not been found as of yet.

The car was near Mitchell Creek.
