Turkish authorities have shot and killed two women who had attacked the police with guns and grenades in an ambush.

The attack occurred in the Bayrampasa district of Istanbul, Turkey’s capital. Security footage shows the women firing shots at a police van before aiming at the police station, NBC News reports.

After fleeing the premises, the two women were chased and surrounded by the police, provoking a shootout that left the two women dead, and one officer wounded.

The Anadolu Agency said that the women were members of the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Army-Front, which had previously carried out a suicide bombing at the US embassy in Turkey that killed a security guard.

Turkey has been wracked with a string of terrorist incidents in recent months. In January, a suicide attack attributed to ISIS killed 10 people in Istanbul.

A previous attack in Ankara in October killed 95 people, and was blamed on the Kurds, the Guardian reports.
