Anchor Liz Wahl resigned from Kremlin-controlled network Russia Today yesterday, while heavily criticizing Russia’s hostile action in Ukraine.
“I cannot be part of a network funded by the Russian government that whitewashes the actions of [Russian President Vladimir] Putin. I am proud to to be an American and believe in disseminating the truth and that is why after this newscast I’m resigning, “ Wahl stated.
She explained before resigning that, as with many reporters on the network, she faces ethical and moral challenges. Her personal background also played a role in her decision. “My grandparents came here as refugees during the Hungarian revolution, ironically to escape the Soviet forces. I have family on the opposite side on my mother’s side that see the daily grind of poverty, and I’m very lucky to have grown up here in the United States.”
“I am the daughter of a veteran, my partner is a physician at a military base where he sees everyday the first-hand accounts on the ultimate prices that people pay for this country.”
