A deaf woman, Andrea Diaz, got a hearing implant and was able to hear for the first time.

With the aid of a cochlear implant, which is an electronic device for deaf people who can’t use standard hearing aids, Diaz starts breaking down as soon as she’s able to hear.

Her boyfriend, Kevin Peakman, then jumped in, asking her to marry him.

Diaz, a patient at the Mississippi Medical Centre, breaks down even more.

“I wanted to make one of the first things that you hear me asking you to marry me,” she said in the ABC News clip. She said “yes” and added: “I can hear your voice.”

“I love you so much and you’re my best friend, baby,” he said. “I wanted to make the first thing you hear me asking you to marry me.”

The romantic move was witnessed by audiologist Dr. Vicki Gonzales. Diaz’s mother shot the video, according to The Independent.

Cochlear implants are placed underneath the skin behind the ear during a surgical procedure.

The University of Mississippi Medical Center, which first uploaded the video to Facebook, wrote: “After receiving a cochlear implant, patients of UMMC ENT and Communicative Sciences audiologist Dr. Vicki Gonzalez are sometimes overcome with emotions when the device is turned on and the patient can gain or regain hearing.”
