Earlier this month, President Obama announced a number of executive orders that supposedly closed the “gun show loophole.” Allegedly, a loophole exists in the federal statutes that allows unlicensed gun sellers to sell automatic weapons at gun shows without rigorous background checks.

Similar claims, that loopholes in the laws make it easy for Americans to purchase automatic weapons, have been made by a number of Democrats, including presidential candidates Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton.

Steven Crowder, a conservative comedian, made a video to refute that hypothesis, going “undercover” as a customer at gun shows attempting to purchase automatic weapons without providing extensive paperwork. The secretly videotaped encounters show Crowder failing every one of his attempts.

“I’m looking for something automatic,” Crowder says in one conversation with a gun seller.

“None of them are automatic,” the seller replies.

“So I cannot buy a fully automatic?” Crowder says.

“No, no one can unless they have a super-crazy license,” the seller replies.

The other taped dialogues follow the same pattern: Crowder tries to buy an automatic weapon, and the seller asks for background check paperwork and licenses.
