According to the video description (the English translation isn’t so great), the author of the video took his daughter to a Taipei zoo, where they ran into a tortoise on its back. However, due to the earnest efforts of a fellow turtle, the turtle was saved. The author then used this opportunity to teach his daughter the concept “helping others is the basis of happiness” (translation of an Chinese proverb).

So yes, it appears that being on its backside is as unpleasant an experience for a turtle as we’ve imagined.

And as one can see in the video, turtles recognize the struggles of their brethren. It took upwards of 40 seconds, but when the turtle finally succeeded in flipping his friend over, the crowd erupted into cheers.

Definitely a feel good story, wouldn’t you say?
