Washington Protester: ‘We’re Ready to Fight Back’

WASHINGTON—Katy Banks flew to the nation’s capital from Los Angeles on Dec. 12 to stay until the day the Electoral College casts votes. She, like thousands of others, gathered to join marches and rallies in Washington on Dec. 12, petitioning the government for fair elections and transparent counting. Similar grassroots protests took place every Saturday since the general election in capitals across the 50 states.

“I had to come. I had to come to support our president, I have to stand for what is right,” Banks said.  “No one will even listen to the accusations about the fraud, they said there was no evidence before anyone  even had the chance to show them the evidence.”

“Their minds are closed and I believe this is a hostile takeover of our country,” she said. “We’re very patient, we’ll tolerate a lot, [we have] a lot of diversity, but this is enough. We’re done. We’re ready to fight back.”

For Banks, the chaotic presidential election is just the latest manifestation of what she sees as a “takeover” by those who don’t share its foundational values.

Her husband of 40 years, who recently died, was a cop for 35 years, Banks explained how she is outraged at the way elected officials have treated police officers in many cases this year, such as telling them to stand down in instances that led to their injury. “The idea that someone would hurt him for trying to protect other people, it just enrages me,” she said.

“People died in Los Angeles and no one cared. I care. And I will do whatever it takes to see the righteous president continue to be in office,” she said. “God bless America.”
