Washington Police Officer Killed After Being Hit by Car in Pursuit: Officials

Another officer was hurt, say police in Kent

A police officer in Washington State was hit by a car and killed during a police pursuit on Sunday morning, according to officials.

The Kent police officer, who was not identified, was assisting with capturing two suspects in a chase when he was hit.

“The Officer is an eight-year veteran with Kent Police; his contributions to our department, and positive impact on his co-workers and the community, have been significant,” the Kent Police Department wrote on its Facebook page.

“Sadness in our hearts today as we grieve the loss of one of our officers killed in the line of duty early this morning. More updates to come as we have them. Please keep the officer’s family and friends in your thoughts,” Kent Police tweeted.

Another officer was injured in the incident. “A second officer, injured in the line of duty during this incident, is currently being treated by medical personnel and is in stable condition,” officials said.

‘Make no question about this, were it not for the actions of this suspect or suspects, this officer would be alive today. It’s directly because of the suspect or suspect’s actions that led to the officer’s death” said Washington State Patrol Captain Ron Mead in a live-streamed news conference.

Other details about the incident are not clear.

The officer’s name was not released by the department.
