A man facing a murder charge escaped from a Mississippi jail and is on the loose.
Rafael McCloud, 33, escaped from the Warren County Jail early Wednesday morning.
McCloud used a homemade shank, or a knife, to hold a guard hostage and force other guards to let them leave the prison. He then fled the scene.
“He forced the guard to disrobe and then put on his clothes,” Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace told the Vicksburg Post. “He then held the shank against the guard (now dressed in prison scrubs) as they went downstairs and he left through a side door.”
McCloud was last seen wearing the jailer’s green pants and jail jacket.
He might be barefoot because his jail-issued flip-flops were found nearby, Pace told WAPT.
Nearby schools have been alerted.
McCloud was in jail facing a murder charge, along with a slew of other charges, for allegedly kidnapping and killing a 69-year-old woman last year.
