Walmart has apologized for a back-to-school banner placed over a glass firearms display.

“Own the school year like a hero,” the sign read. A photo of the sign was heavily shared on social media this week.

The sign is part of a storewide Walmart back-to-school campaign that appears to be unrelated to guns, according to the Washington Post.

“What’s seen in this photograph would never be acceptable in our stores. We regret this situation and are looking into how it could have happened,” Charles Crowson, a Walmart spokesman, told The Washington Post.

“We hear you ... . This was horrible and we removed the sign as soon as we found out,” Walmart also wrote on Twitter. “We are investigating this situation and deeply regret that this image has been circulated as it doesn’t represent our company values,” it also tweeted.

The location of the store in question is unclear. There were reports saying it was located in Indiana, but those have not been confirmed.
