The Walking Dead season 5 will see Rick and his group head to Washington, D.C. to try to locate the cure for the zombie outbreak, according to the official synopsis.

The trailer for the upcoming season indicated that the group would eventually leave Terminus, seemingly with the help of Gareth. It appears that Carol and Tyreese meet back up with the group somehow, and a large contingent moves toward D.C. to try to locate the cure.

The synopsis says that season 5 features “a story that weaves the true motives of the people of Terminus with the hopeful prospect of a cure in Washington, D.C., the fate of the group’s lost comrades, as well as new locales, new conflicts and new obstacles in keeping the group together and staying alive.”

“Stories will break apart and intersect. The characters will find love and hate. Peace and conflict. Contentment and terror. And, in the quest to find a permanent, safe place to call home, one question will haunt them ... After all they’ve seen, all they’ve done, all they’ve sacrificed, lost, and held onto no matter what the cost ... Who do they become?” it added.

Since Carol, Tyreese, and baby Judith meet back up with Rick and the group, Beth is the only main character who seems to remain apart for at least a while. The video footage released so far shows her at a hospital in a compound, leading some to speculate that she’s in a portion of the Alexandria Safe Zone from the comic books.

The premiere episode synopsis has also been revealed: “We learn the true motives of the Terminans as Rick and the group find themselves in a vulnerable situation. Will they be able to work together?”

And new pictures have been released from episode, confirming that Michonne, Daryl, Glenn, and Father Gabriel are still alive at that point. Many of the death rumors are about Glenn getting killed in Terminus early in the season by a man who is possibly Negan from the comics.

The Walking Dead season 5 will premiere on Sunday, October 12.
