New York City has the longest wait list for charter schools in the nation, according to a new survey. The NAPCS survey found 52,900 kids in New York City are on a waitlist to attend a charter school. The survey took into account kids who might be on more than one list.

The national total of waitlisted students is 500,000. The entire state of California is the only place that comes close to having as many students waiting to attend a charter school as New York City, at about 50,000.
