Miami Heat star Dwayne Wade will be out for up to eight weeks following Monday’s left knee surgery, according to a report on the NBA’s website.

The 20-minute procedure was performed by the team’s physician, Harlan Selesnick, in nearby Coral Gables, Fla.

Wade, who had fluid removed from his knee in the middle of the team’s second-round series against Indiana, played through much of the postseason in pain.

His decision to have surgery now took him out of any possible chance to help Team USA win the gold medal again at this year’s Olympics.

The 30-year-old Wade is a two-time NBA champion and has been named on the All-NBA First, Second, or Third team seven times in his nine years in the league.
