Volkswagen ads are getting millions of hits before the Super Bowl. Two Super Bowl ads were released by the German automaker Volkswagen this week, with one ad for the Volkswagen Passat garnering more than 6 million hits on Youtube as of Friday afternoon.

The commercial, called “The Force,” pays homage to George Lucas’ Star Wars films by featuring a young child dressed as the villain Darth Vader who tries to use The Force to control his dog, his family’s washing machine, and a doll.

To the tune of the famous Star Wars anthem “The Imperial March,” the child finally uses his mind powers to start his father’s Passat, but in actuality, it’s his dad who has remote-controlled the car from his electronic car key.

The commercial has gotten more than 6 million views on Youtube as of Friday afternoon, and has seemingly gone viral all over the Internet.

In a separate Super Bowl ad called “Black Beetle,” showcasing the new Volkswagen 21st Century Beetle, a computer-generated black beetle zooms through what Volkswagen calls a “photo-real lush kingdom where the Black Beetle rules, runs, navigates and out performs all the other creatures,” all while Ram Jam’s “Black Betty” plays in the background.

According to tech blog Mashable, “The Force” will run in the second quarter of this Sunday’s Super Bowl, while “Black Beetle” will be shown in the fourth quarter.

The new Super Bowl commercials demonstrate European carmaker Volkswagen’s increasingly aggressive attempts to grow its American market. Its other unconventional marketing efforts include a giveaway of Volkswagen Bottle 2012s to an Oprah audience last November.
