An article titled, “Putin After Hockey Loss: ‘This Must Be What An Actual Election Feels Like,’ is satire.
The piece was published on The New Yorker’s Borowitz Report, penned by write Andy Borowitz, and was shared tens of thousands of times.
“Minutes after the Russian men’s hockey team fell to Finland 3-1, a devastated President Vladimir Putin told reporters, ‘This must be what an actual election feels like,’” the article reads.
The satire article appears to be poking fun at the way Russia handled Putin’s last elections. Opposition critics have said the Russian president operates in an autocratic manner.
At the bottom of the Horowitz Report article, the keywords read, “humor” and “satire.” Google News also lists the page as satire.
However, there doesn’t appear to be a disclaimer for the page, and since it’s published on The New Yorker, it could easily lead one into believing the article is real.
Borowitz’s article was the most popular one on The New Yorker’s website on Thursday.
