Thirty-seven boats took part on the final day of the Hebe Haven Winter Saturday Series under grey skies and murky conditions, but with an acceptable 5-8 knot breeze on Saturday Dec 14.

Final positions were still amazingly close after completing Race-7 and -8 in both the IRC and HKPN Divisions.

IRC

Despite Simon Blore helming his boat Mojito to finish two minutes ahead of Peter McCafferey in Vixen in both IRC races, it was insufficient to stop Vixen taking two second places on corrected time against Mojito’s 4th and 3rd in the two races of the day.

This performance by Vixen was sufficient to push her into the winning position on 10 points. Mojito was second on 11 points with Talkinghead third on 13.

HKPN

In the HKPN Division Toby Jenkin-Jones in Bits & Pieces did the line honours double in Race-7 and -8, but was positioned 5th and 7th on corrected time.

The Farr 36 design, Tara also finished down the order in 7th and 8th places in the races, but with four early series wins under her belt she was able to discard these two scores and finish with 11 points.

Goddess won both of the races on Day-4 giving her a total of 11 points also, but Tara’s early performance in the series allowed her to take the series first place.

Bits & Pieces and Jazz (Justin Shave) both finished the series on 19 points, but Bits & Pieces just managed to hang onto third place on count back.

Sports Boats and Dragon Boats

In the four-Race Sports Boats series, Howard Winn’s Good Vibrations took the series win over Steve Bourne’s Merlin and Jim Daly’s Stingray.

Merlin and Stingray both won two races in the series, but also missed one race day leaving them on 20 points in total.

Good Vibrations with three 3rd places and a 4th place won “Tortoise Style” coming in with a total of 13 points, proving that consistency can win a series without winning a race. Black Magic came fourth.

Thirteen Dragon Boats also took part on Race Day-4 with Mei-Fei winning both races.

With the completion of the successful series and after the prize giving, all participants were invited to an end of series buffet on the club house veranda.
