KEELUNG, Taiwan—“Waiting for five years, I finally got the opportunity to watch Shen Yun,” exclaimed, Mr. Wang Zheng Ren, Professor of Business Management Studies (MBA) at the International Business Administration School, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU), Japan, who accompanied his mother to watch a performance by Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company in the Keelung Cultural Center in Taiwan on the afternoon of March 24.
After living in Japan for 22 years, Professor Wang heard of Shen Yun during his visit to Taiwan five years ago, but he was unable to see Shen Yun then. He said, “This time, I made use of my half-year sabbatical leave to return to Taiwan to serve as visiting professor of the Business and Strategy Institute at National Taiwan Normal University. I also took the opportunity to attend to my mother who is interested in Chinese culture. Therefore, I came to the show with her.”
In view of the fact that Shen Yun performs classical Chinese dance, Professor Wang said, “From the artists’ performances, we can tell that they have undergone excellent training.” Referring to his mother, he added, “She admired the design of the costumes and the synchronization of colors, which were done very well.”
Professor Wang said he liked all of Shen Yun’s programs, in particular the piece The Emperor Journeys the Moon. He added, “The scene on the backdrops was fantastic. When acting the drunken emperor, the dancer’s exquisite posture and movements made me feel very comfortable.”
Deeply moved by the performance, Professor Wang said, “When seeing the dance Sand Monk Is Blessed, I was in tears.”
Talking about Shen Yun’s demonstration of Chinese culture, he said, “It [Shen Yun] fully demonstrates Chinese culture, including folk dances of various regions, such as Yunnan, Tibet, Mongolia, etc. It showcases the characteristics of the fusion of the Chinese nation, and brings back the Chinese civilization in ancient times. That’s great.” As to the atmosphere, he said, “It was very vivid and lifelike, as if we were in the scene. This kind of performance is indeed great.”
He also spoke highly of the Western master of ceremony, Leeshai Lemish. He said, “Not only can he speak Chinese very well, but he even can recite difficult poetry.”
As a musical instrument lover, he said, “The live orchestra is fantastic.” He especially told his mother, “The music was played by a live orchestra, not by a CD.” “The performances of the tenor and soprano were also wonderful.” In terms of the lyrics, he said, “They can save sentient beings. They are really very good.”
