LOUISVILLE, Ky.—On the evening on May 1, Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company successfully concluded the second performance at The Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts, Whitney Hall. The performance took the audience on a whirlwind tour of 5,000 years of culture and history, turning back the clock and resuscitating what was nearly lost. The company drew nonstop appreciative “oohs” from the audience.

Mr. Zhang and his wife, who have just arrived in the U.S. from China and are here for about a week, went to see Shen Yun with their son. The performance left the Zhangs with quite a memorable impression.

Both of the Zhangs applauded the performance, praising the difficult dancing techniques of classical Chinese dance, what New York-based Shen Yun is known for. Mr. Zhang said the performance was immensely better than what he had expected.

What stood out to the joyful couple was the pureness of the dance. Mr. Zhang said “The performance was great, very pure.”

Mrs. Zhang completely agreed with her husband, saying: “We thought that there wasn’t an ounce of pretense. It was pure. I was particularly impressed by this,” she said.

Mr. Zhang said he rarely went to see a performance. So, seeing a performance like this was a rare opportunity for him. The couple explained that they rarely went to performances in China because they didn’t like the modern elements within the dancing.

The Zhang couple could not emphasize enough the pureness they felt emanating from the performers. Mrs. Zhang said “I was most impressed by the pureness of the performers. Their charm, which I liked the most, was pure and simple.”

They shared that they had heard about Shen Yun in China, but they never realized that it would be so good. Now that they had seen it in person, Mr. Zhang said “You could see for yourself the spirit behind performers’ struggle and effort. They were of great potential.”

The Zhang couple believed the portrayal of Gods and Buddhas, the ancient Chinese culture and the persecution of Falun Gong by the Chinese regime were all very well done.

“If you don’t experience it first hand, you probably won’t understand.” Mr. Zhang said. “But we do understand. We used to live in Beijing.”

Though they were not persecuted, they were fully aware of the persecution. Mrs. Zhang said that her colleague who practiced Falun Gong was persecuted.

For the Zhang couple, it was good the performance touched upon the theme of good has its reward and evil has its recompense. Mrs. Zhang said “This is exactly how it should be.”

Finally to sum up, Mr. Zhang said “This performance was simply outstanding; the techniques of the performers were simply superb.”
