A 6-year-old Virginia boy has died from injuries suffered when he slid onto a road and under a vehicle.

Aaron Frias-Alvarez was sledding in his yard in Axton when he slid onto Old Liberty Drive and underneath a vehicle, reported WSET.

The boy was rushed to the hospital and died despite the 73-year-old driver of the car stopping almost immediately upon impact.

No charges will be filed against the driver, state police said. The driver was traveling 25 miles per hour, reported WTVR.

Elizabeth Minter, principal at Mt. Olivet Elementary in Martinsville, said Aaron was a student at the school, in kindergarten.

“The Mt. Olivet Elementary family is deeply saddened to learn of the loss of one of our students. Aaron will be missed by his classmates and school family,” Minter said in a statement obtained by WDBJ.

The family of Aaron has not spoken publicly since the accident but some of those close with the family have.

“We’re just here trying to help the family, like it was a tough time and we Just came over here to help them out and clean up and whatever we can do,” said Jesus Sanchez, a family friend, reported WSET.

“He was a boy [and] he liked to play all the time outside, had a lot of friends. He was a good guy, a good little kid,” Sanchez said.
