Vin Diesel has revealed what city Fast & Furious 8 will be set in.
The next installment in the popular franchise is set to be filmed next year and hit theaters in the summer of 2017.
Diesel posted a picture on Instagram that has the text “Fast & Furious 8” hanging over a picture of New York City.
None of the Fast & Furious films have been set in NYC so far, although several have been set in other cities around the world.
The biggest city that has been utilized as a setting in the films has been Tokyo, which was the scene of some epic drifting and racing in “Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift.”
Along with a new city, the upcoming addition to the series will almost certainly feature the introduction of at least two new core characters after Paul Walker’s character Brian O’Conner and his on-screen wife Mia, played by Jordana Brewster, were given an exit in the closing moments of Furious Seven.
Roman (Tyrese Gibson), Tej (Ludacris), Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson), Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), and Dom (Vin Diesel) are likely to remain as core characters, although Johnson, also known as The Rock, could skip the upcoming film.
Furious 7 also introduced Ramsey, a brilliant hacker played by Nathalie Emmanuel, who could be cast again in Fast & Furious 8. With the death of Gisele earlier in the series, and the exit of Mia, the core group needs at least one and preferably two women in addition to Letty.
