Vijay Singh of Fiji and son Qass Singh teamed up to shoot a second straight 13–under 59 on Sunday, Dec. 18, to win the PNC Championship in Orlando, Fla.

Team Singh used an eagle and four birdies on the back nine of the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club to finish the 36-hole scramble event at 26–under 118. That was enough for a two-stroke win over two other father-son duos: Justin Thomas and his father Mike Thomas, and John Daly and his son John Daly II.

Team Singh birdied each of their first seven holes before slowing down and making four straight pars.

“We made some good putts but he hit two of the best 2-irons I’ve ever seen him hit” on the front nine, Vijay Singh said. “He played well. He got a little slow on the middle there but he came back. I told him we needed to birdie in from 12 on, but lucky enough I hit a good birdie on 12, and then made a great putt on 13 and the second shot on 14.”

The par-5 14th was the site of the Singhs’ eagle. The elder Singh’s second shot got to within several feet of the cup, and Qass Singh, 32, converted the eagle putt.

Their final two birdies came at the par-4 16th and the par-5 18th, where Vijay Singh made a short birdie putt to set a clubhouse pace that no team would catch.

“It’s what we wanted,” Qass Singh said. “We wanted this all year, so just to have it finally is like it’s almost a dream come true. It’s going to be a memory I’m going to have forever.”

Team Thomas led after Saturday’s first round thanks to a 15–under 57. They shot a 9-under 63 on Sunday, while Team Daly posted a 59 to tie the Thomases at 24 under.

The elder Daly, 56, revealed earlier this week that he’s scheduled for a left knee replacement on Wednesday after having his right knee done three years ago.

Ireland’s Padraig Harrington and his son Paddy Harrington shot a 60 Sunday to finish fourth at 22 under. Nelly Korda and father Petr Korda (61), Matt Kuchar and son Cameron Kuchar (62) and Germany’s Bernhard Langer and son Jason Langer (63) tied for fifth at 21 under.

Tiger Woods and son Charlie Woods put together a 7–under 65 following Saturday’s 59. Team Woods tied for eighth at 20 under with Jordan Spieth and father Shawn Spieth (63) and Mark O‘Meara and son Shaun O’Meara (63).

The elder Woods played through plantar fasciitis in his right foot in order to participate in the father/son event. His son had sprained an ankle recently.

“Charlie and I, we played great yesterday,” Tiger Woods said, “and today we were both like walking penguins out there. It was all good, though.”
