Buildings shook in Vienna, Austria on Wednesday after a 4.4. magnitude earthquake hit just 17 miles south of the city.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, a non-profit based in Paris, said that it received reports of falling objects from the quake.

Dr. Wolfgang Lenhardt of the Austrian Seismological Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics said on the institute’s website that the quake was of 4.2 magnitude and hit at 7:17 p.m. local time. Slight aftershocks may occur in the next several days, he wrote.

Although some said most people didn’t feel the quake, others said via Twitter that they felt shaking.

“The whole house was shaking,” said one, Bobby Vadea.

“Interesting. The house was shaking so much that I felt queasy by the end of it,” said Scott Partee.

The quake shocked Austrians both because of its rare for earthquakes to occur there and because a 4.2 quake hit recently, on September 20.
