Major Wall Street Players Plan New Exchange To Challenge NYSE, Nasdaq

In a joint venture, nine financial institutions including Morgan Stanley, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, and Charles Schwab, are launching a new low-cost stock exchange called the Members Exchange, that will compete with the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq.

The Members Exchange, or MEMX, comes after years of complaints from brokers and traders over what they see as excessive fees charged by U.S. stock exchanges for data on stock trades.

MEMX aimed at taking matters into their own hands, plans to offer a simple trading model, and will represent the interests of its founders’ collective client base.

Saudi Girl Leaves Airport Under UNHCR Protection

An 18-year-old Saudi woman stopped in Bangkok as she was trying to travel to Australia for asylum to escape alleged abuse by her family. On Monday, she left her airport hotel room for temporary admission into Thailand.

Video from Thai police showed Rahaf Mohammed Alqunun outside the airport on Monday evening surrounded by police and some media.

The head of Thailand’s immigration police said Alqunun was allowed to temporarily enter Thailand under the protection of the UN refugee agency, which was expected to take at least five to seven days to evaluate her case and claims for asylum status.

Where she would stay in the Thai capital was not announced.
