President Donald Trump is open to compromising on his demand for border security funding but if attempts at negotiation fail, he will likely declare a national emergency and redirect other federal funding to border wall construction, the president said Jan. 10.
“We’re either going to have a win, make a compromise, because I think a compromise is a win for everybody, or I will declare a national emergency,” Trump said while speaking with media in front of the White House before departing for a visit to the border in Texas.

Slowing auto sales in China were a big issue for Jaguar Land Rover. The company says it will cut 4,500 jobs. Currently, it employs about 44,000 people in the U.K.
Study Say US Fertility Rate is Too Low to Replace Population
The National Center for Health Statistics released its report on Jan. 10. The study finds that overall, the total fertility rate for the United States is 16 percent below what is considered the level needed for the population to replace itself.According to researchers, the only states that are keeping up with the population are South Dakota and Utah.
They admit there were some limits to their report.
Dust Storm Turns Sky Red in Outback Australia
A severe dust storm hit a rural New South Wales town on Jan. 8, turning the sky dark red and causing power outages for residents in the area.Video shot from a family farm in the town of Barellan shows red dust blanketing the surroundings as trees jostle in the wind. “It got incredibly dark, it was as if it was 2 a.m. at night and someone had just thrown a blanket over the sun,” Sally Lees, who filmed the video in the early afternoon, told Reuters.
More than 5,000 homes lost power in the area because of the storm, according to local news, though most had it restored by Tuesday night. Apart from Barellan, the towns of Temora and Ariah Park were also affected.
