Videos of the Day: Kavanaugh to Face New FBI Background Probe Before Senate Vote

Senate Republicans agreed on Sept. 28, to delay the vote to confirm Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh for one week pending an FBI investigation into allegations brought forth by a female accuser.

The Senate Judiciary Committee called on the White House to order the FBI to reopen Kavanaugh’s background investigation.

“The supplemental FBI background investigation would be limited to current credible allegations against the nominee and must be completed no later than one week from today,” the committee said in a statement.

President Donald Trump deferred the investigation decision to the committee earlier in the day.

“I will be totally reliant on what Senator [Chuck] Grassley and the group decides to do,” Trump said. “And that‘ll be a decision that they’re going to make. And I suspect they’ll be making some decision soon, whether to take a vote or to do whatever else they want to do.”

Massive Earthquake Hits Indonesia, Tsunami Hits Palu

A massive 7.5-magnitude earthquake hit the Indonesian island of Sulawesi and triggered a tsunami in Palu and Donggala.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake hit at a depth of about 6 miles and it was located 48 miles north of Palu. Several aftershocks hit the area, with some registering 5.7 and 5.2 on the Richter scale.

The Associated Press, citing a spokesman with Indonesia’s disaster agency, reported that a tsunami occurred along Palu and Donggala.

Facebook Unearths Security Flaw Affecting 50 Million Users

Facebook Inc. has discovered a security flaw affecting about 50 million user accounts which could have allowed attackers to take over those accounts, the social networking company said on Sept. 28.

Facebook, which has more than 2 billion monthly active users, has since fixed the vulnerability and informed law enforcement, it said.

Attackers stole Facebook access tokens through its “view as” feature, which they could then use to take over people’s accounts. “View as” allows users to see what their own profile looks like to someone else.

“We do not currently have any evidence that suggests these accounts have been compromised,” Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post.

Broadway Musical Anastasia Goes Global

The Broadway producers of the musical “Anastasia” are taking the success show around the world.

To celebrate the launch actresses from the original show, the U.S. tour, Germany, and Spain filmed a multilingual music video at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York.

“From very early on we discovered that our show had broad international appeal. If you stand in our lobby you hear language - people speaking languages from all over the world,” said lead producer Tom Kirdahy.
