The post-Christmas blizzard that left at least two people dead in the U.S. Midwest and stranded thousands of travelers has fizzled to heavy rain storms that will soak swaths of the southeast, Gulf Coast, and New England through the weekend, the National Weather Service said.
After dumping more than 6-to-10 inches of snow on the Midwest, the storm dropped about 5 inches of rain in Biloxi, Mississippi, and 4 inches of rain on Baton Rouge, Louisiana and the Gulf Coast late Thursday and into Friday, forecasters said.

A suspected illegal immigrant accused of shooting to death a California police officer was arrested on Friday, December 28, after a two-day manhunt that President Donald Trump cited in his push for building a wall on the border with Mexico.The officer in Newman, a small Northern California town, was shot and killed after pulling over the suspect on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The suspect was an illegal immigrant from Mexico who has claimed to be involved with a criminal gang called the Surenos.
