Police in Henderson, Nevada, released the body camera video of an officer who fired at a vehicle that ran over his foot during a stop.
Larry Calvert, 27, was arrested for allegedly striking two officers with his car on Aug. 12, prompting the shooting. Calvert faces charges of battery with a deadly weapon against officers, said the police.
The police department released the body camera footage on Aug. 17.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that Calvert struck two officers and ran over an officer’s foot as he fled the scene with Levia in the vehicle. Another woman, 26-year-old Summer Waters, fled the scene on foot.
Police said that Calvert was hospitalized with two gunshot wounds, and Levia was also hit by Calvert’s car and sustained several injuries.
Marcella Levia, who had been present during the incident, was also located, according to the Review-Journal.
“Both Calvert and Levia subsequently exited the residence at which time it was discovered that Calvert suffered from at least two gunshot wounds, and that Levia had apparently been run over by Calvert during last night’s incident and was also injured. Both Calvert and Levia were transported to a local hospital to be treated for their injuries. As of this release, Calvert is in surgery and Levia is listed in stable condition,” said Henderson Police in a later statement.
Police are searching for Waters for questioning.
It was the first officer-involved shooting involving the Henderson Police Department in 2018, Fox5 reported.
The officer involved in the shooting is on paid leave pending the investigation.
Traffic Stops Dangerous for Police
In early August, a video was released by police in Pennsylvania, showing a man opening fire on two officers. One of the officers was critically wounded in the incident.“The leading circumstances of firearms-related fatalities were officers responding to domestic disturbances and conducting traffic stops,” the memorial fund says.
