Police in Ohio said they believe robberies at two Family Dollar stores are connected to the murder of a worker at a pizza shop on Monday evening.
The Akron Police Department released a video from the pizza shop murder, showing the moments before a 21-year-old man was shot and killed. The footage shows a masked suspect holding a gun at a worker before the worker puts his hands up. According to WKYC, the gunman entered the shop and demanded money. After the clerk handed the cash over, the suspect opened fire before fleeing the scene.
The clerk was identified as Zakareia Husein of Springfield Township. He died at Akron City Hospital after taking a gunshot wound to the torso, WKYC reported.
Police said the gunman may be involved in two armed robberies that involved several suspects at Family Dollar stores on Saturday night. The suspects are described as black males, aged 16-25 wearing all black and ski masks, but police said one suspect might be a female. The suspects pistol whipped an employee at one of the Family Dollar locations and fired a shot, reported FOX-8.
Husein’s brother, Ammar, owns the pizza shop, saying his brother was an employee there.
“We lost a great man, we lost a great kid, we lost a great brother,” Ammar told News Net 5.
University of Akron officials said Zakareia was studying at the school, majoring in international business.
The family told the station they’re offering a $10,000 reward.
