A New Jersey woman got an unpleasant surprise when she opened up a Dunkin’ breakfast sandwich, finding gnats, maggots, and worms.
Krystal Platzer went to the Dunkin’ drive-thru at 1500 Ocean Avenue in Lakewood on Oct. 18, CBS Philadelphia reported.
She discovered the worms and maggots at home.
“I opened mine and took a bite and a maggot fell out onto the table. I screamed, then opened it up and really looked at it and saw different kinds of bugs: dead, alive, raw bacon, gnats, flies, maggots, a large black worm,” said Platzer in the CBS affiliate report. “I am disgusted there was different kinds of bugs and raw bacon crawling with worms.”
She said her toddler son ate one of the sandwiches before she knew whether it was contaminated.
“I handed one sandwich to my baby… he was hungry,” said Platzer. “I’m outraged my baby ate one.”
She said she wasn’t offered a refund, and she was instead offered more food. “I said are you kidding? They said we could have the Baby Munchkins,” claims Platzer.
In a Facebook post, she wrote: “CHECK YOUR FOOD PEOPLE. This is what makes us sick with parasites.” She added: “Absolutely disgusting ...Unacceptable. I never want to eat out again,” NJ.com reported. On her Facebook page, Platzer also wrote: “I legit started puking, got this at Dunkin’ Donuts on 88 Lakewood. I’m sick to my stomach, what if my baby ate this one.”
Her video had more than 64,000 views and the Facebook post.

Platzer said she called the local health department but hasn’t heard back from any officials yet.
“You can’t have stuff like that,” Platzer said, and she added that a slice of bacon on her sandwich wasn’t cooked, NJ.com reported. “They need to check the temperature of their machines. People need to handle food properly or not work. ”
Dunkin' Reacts
Dunkin’ told the Epoch Times: “At Dunkin’, food safety is a top priority & nothing is more important to us than our franchisees operating clean & safe restaurants. We take matters such as this very seriously. The franchisee who owns & operates the store has confirmed he has met with the guest to apologize for the poor experience.”
Lt. Gregg Staffordsmith, a spokesman for the Lakewood Police Department, said his office was contacted about the sandwich, saying that officers got a look at the bug-infested food item, NJ 101.5 reported.
Karl Stine, who works for the Ocean County Department of Health, told the Asbury Park Press that he found no problems when he checked the Dunkin’ location.
