Number-One ranked Victoria Azarenka will face 44-ranked Serena Williams in the Women’s Final at the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament in Arthur Ashe Stadium Saturday night.

Williams reached the final by defeating 10th-ranked Sara Errani in straight sets. Williams simply overpowered her opponent 6–1, 6–2 in a match which was never close. Williams’ fastest serve was 119 mph; Errani managed only 93 mph. Williams hit 38 winners to Errani’s nine and nine aces to none for her opponent.

Azarenka had a much tougher time of it, battling back from a set down to defeat three-ranked Maria Sharapova. The third set of this match was longer than both sets of the Williams/Errani blowout, as the two blonde powerhouses battled baseline-to-baseline for nearly three hours before Azarenka finally won due to better athleticism.

For Azarenka this will be her first U.S. Open Final; Williams will be seeking her fourth U.S. Open title.

After a season lost to illness and injury, Serena Williams has made an amazing comeback, winning Wimbledon and Gold in the 2012 London Olympics. If she wins the  U.S.Open this time she will be there first female player to win both in a single season since she did it herself ten years ago.

Azarenka started the year with a win in the Australian Open, her first Grand Slam win. She reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon and won bronze at London. 2012 is the biggest year of her career with or without a U.S. Open win.
