Amid the increasingly violent Venezuela protests in 2014, Madonna has lashed out at President Nicolas Maduro.

“Apparantly Maduro is not familiar with the phrase ‘Human Rights!’” she said via Instagram.

“Facism is alive and thriving in Venezuela and Russia. The Ukraine isn’t far behind!”

Her photo and that accompanying text has gotten over 56,800 likes so far.

The protests have sparked dozens of deaths, including Miss Tourism 2013 Genesis Caroma, whose family said she was shot down by members of armed militias who opened fire on a demonstration in Valencia on Tuesday.

“We were protesting peacefully and this was like a war,” Emilio Morillo, an 18-year-old university student, told AP.

The government and protesters are clashing over perceived injustices in the country, including laws against complete freedom of the press and assembly.
