The Vampire Diaries season 6, which is set to premiere, will include a new villain.

“There is a big bad. it’s a long, slow-burn mythology that will unfold over the course of the entire season and will really impact each of our character in deep ways and it’s smart and it’s interesting and it’s small, which I like,” executive producer Julie Plec told Entertainment Weekly.

“Instead of trying to top ourselves year to year, we try to scale back and see if we can keep it really personal and rooted in character.”

The website said that it tried to get new information about a potential reunion between Damon and Elena, but to no avail.

Plec previously told E! that Damon and Bonnie will be together for a while (wherever they are after what happened in the season 4 finale) and hinted that they might become a new couple.

“To me, in spite of what [Bonnie and Damon] had in the books, that kind of relationship would only be born out of chemistry, and an on-screen connection,” Plec said, noting that the actors Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham “are super close.”

“They love each other. They’re very excited to work together. There could be instant chemistry there that we all sit back and watch like we did, frankly, with Klaus and Caroline, with that very first scene,” she said.

“There was never any plan to have romance but he cures her on her freaking birthday and all of a sudden, the world is melting.. So you never know, but what we did want to do is we wanted to service the Bamon relationship from the books and at least give those two characters an opportunity—that we never thought we'd have frankly cause they never liked each other, and for good reason—to bond and get close and to be comrades. So it will start there, and it may never go any further—that’s not the plan, but you never know.”
