Only one men’s match was played on Sunday Feb 17—Valley-A against Pak-A at the Valley ground. But this produced some good hockey and some exciting periods of play.
Valley-A went one goal up from a deflection close to goal in the first few minutes of the game, but Pak-A came back and equalised on 15 minutes. Pak-A then scored a good field goal to make it 2-1 at half time.
In the second half Pak-A scored two quick goals to make the score 4-1, which one would have thought was sufficient to seal the match, but Valley-A kept to the task and scored twice through a well-taken field goal and from a penalty corner to equal the score.
Close to the finish Valley-A, pressing close to goal, made a shot on goal and the umpire awarded a penalty flick for an infringement by one of the Pak-A players. Valley-A scored from this incident making the final score 5-4 to Valley-A.
The Pak-A players were very upset as they did not think there was an infringement leading to the penalty and at the same time it drops them further off the pace of the chasing pack in the standings.
Khalsa are still five points clear, even after losing their match against Punjab-A prior to the Chinese New Year holiday.
The goal scorers for Valley-A were Vincent Dittrich (2), David Orr (2) and Josh Channon; while for Pak-A the scorers were Ishtiaq Ahmed (2), Rizwan Ul Hassan and Muhammad Wagas.
Women
Valley-A played Recreio-A on Saturday Feb 16 at the Valley ground. Valley-A won this match 11-0.
On Monday evening Feb 18 KCC-A played Shaheen-A at King’s Park. KCC-A won the match 6-0.
The HKFC-B match with their A side scheduled for Saturday Feb 16 was changed to Tuesday Feb 19, unfortunately the results were too late to meet print times.
