A helicopter crash in Utah on Monday morning ended in both of the two men in the helicopter surviving even after a roll downhill that left people amazed nothing worse happened.

The helicopter crashed into a mountain range in the Tibble Fork Reservoir area of the American Fork Canyon, which is in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, southeast of Salt Lake City.

The single-engine, two-seat aircraft crashed around 8:30 a.m. The two men that were in the aircraft--a 28-year-old pilot and his 24-year-old student--stumbled out of the crash into a clearing about 50 yards, and the pilot called 911.

Overall, this was a very positive outcome in a situation that could have been devastating,“ Utah County Sheriff’s Lt. Yvette Rice told the Salt Lake Tribune. ”They literally came down just inches away from a granite rock face.”

One of the survivors asked a paramedic treating him, “How did I survive this?” according to the Tribune.

Rescue crews found the men about 45 minutes after the call, and flew them to a local hospital, according to local media outlet Deseret News.

Both men suffered fractures to different body parts.
