A woman and two children were killed after a car hydroplaned in the rain and crashed into another vehicle March 30 on the 15 Freeway about 80 miles northeast of Barstow, according to media reports.

The incident occurred around 1:40 p.m. when a 2019 Kia heading south started to hydroplane due to heavy rain close to Halloran Springs Road, media reports said.

The car, with a driver and five passengers, then crashed head-on into a 2016 Mercedes SUV carrying four people.

A woman and a 13-year-old boy, both of Madera, who were passengers in the Kia and an 11-year-old boy from Los Angeles who was in the Mercedes were killed.

The remaining seven people were taken to hospitals, according to media reports.

Authorities have not yet released the victims’ names.
