LOS ANGELES—Actor William Shatner, 90, who played Capt. James. T. Kirk in Star Trek, returned safely to earth in West Texas on Wednesday, making history as the oldest person to travel to space.

“I’m overwhelmed. I had no idea,” Shatner said following an 11-minute suborbital journey into weightlessness—and the history books—aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket ship.
