Los Angeles police released a video Jan. 17 of the death of a pedestrian struck by three hit-and-run drivers five days earlier and are asking the public for help identifying those involved.
The pedestrian, described as possibly a Hispanic male in his late 20s or early 30s, was walking on San Fernando Road south of Montague Street at about 11:45 p.m. when he was first struck by a light-colored pickup truck. The truck was traveling the wrong way northbound in southbound lanes on the San Fernando Road, according to a statement by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

The pedestrian was flung into the northbound lanes after the impact. When he tried to get up, he was struck by a second vehicle described as a light-colored full-size SUV.

“The force of the second collision threw the pedestrian onto the southbound lanes where he was run over by a third vehicle,” the LAPD said in the statement.

The first and second vehicles were last seen driving northbound on San Fernando Road toward Osborne Street, according to the release.

Police say the third vehicle was a dark-colored midsize SUV going southbound on San Fernando Road. That vehicle was last seen southbound on San Fernando Road driving toward Branford Street, LAPD reported.

All three vehicles failed to stop or try to help the man, or remain at the scene, as required by law, according to police.

Several other vehicles are seen in the video driving slowly past the man’s crumpled body lying in the street.

A local business owner, Amgad Khalil, saw the collision on his security camera video, telling NBC Los Angeles no one deserved what happened.

“He was breathing,” Mr. Khalil told the news station. “He was trying to get up. ... Nobody deserves this—nobody. I wouldn’t wish that on my enemy.”

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the man dead.

The man’s name is being withheld until the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office can notify his family, according to the LAPD.

Los Angeles police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the drivers involved in the collisions, and are offering a reward of up to $50,000 for anyone who provides information leading to the identification, apprehension, and conviction of the offenders.

Police also reminded the public to pull over and stop if they are in a crash.

“Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves,” the LAPD said in a statement.

Police also encouraged pedestrians to be careful crossing streets and to obey traffic laws.
